Information
Conakry

Geographic location: Located on the Northwestern seaboard of the Kaloum peninsula and well sheltered form the westerly prevailing winds by the Tombo island, the Conakry Autonomous Port benefits from an exceptional geographic location. Protected by 2 granite breakwaters, of 5 000 m long and 150 m-wide approach channel leads to the port dock. The Conakry Autonomous Port is accessible at any season and by any tides. The water area is one of the calmest.

Road and railway links are now being upgraded.

The Gbessia airport which is 15 km away from Conakry is accessible to any type of plane.

Lighthouse: Located on the Tamara island at about 14 km from the port. It rises 104 m above sea level and has a reach of 50 km.
Access: The approach channel is 5 000 m long, with a width at stalemate of 150 m; current width is 100 m and depth 9.50 m. The admitted draft after dredging is 9 m and the max. length of vessel admitted varies up to 230 m.
Frequency of dredging: Once every four years.
Annual dredged volume: an average of 1 200 000 m3
Opening Hours: 08:00; closing: 22:00
Pilotage: Compulsory
Tides: Semi diurnal, tidal range 3 m
Towage: Compulsory, 2 tug boats of 1 800 HP.

Besides the berths of the fish harbour dock, all the others have a depth of over 8.5 m. Average length of berths: 152.6 m. .
