About Meals on Wheels
California

Standing together we make a difference.

About Us

Meals on Wheels California was established following a pivotal statewide meeting in Los Angeles County in February 2015. At this meeting, Meals on Wheels programs from across California came together and overwhelmingly voted in favor of forming a statewide association. Twelve leaders representing various regions were elected to the Board of Directors, along with four officers: President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.

Officially incorporated on May 12, 2015, and recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit by the IRS later that year, Meals on Wheels California (MOWCA) has since become a unifying force for programs serving seniors across the state.

Despite the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, MOWCA continued to grow and strengthen its network. Our mission is to support and elevate all member organizations — regardless of size — so they can better serve California’s aging population.

We advocate for supportive services and lead initiatives that address food insecurity, social isolation, and access to healthcare.

Our Advocacy Committee plays a key role in informing members about critical legislation and policy changes. Through shared knowledge, partnerships, and collaboration, we help programs expand their reach—even in underserved and rural communities.

MOWCA also hosts annual conferences, provides training, and develops toolkits to help members partner with healthcare providers and respond to emerging community needs.

Today, Meals on Wheels California is recognized as a national leader — dedicated to advocacy, innovation, and the long-term well-being of seniors throughout the state.
